edelweiss (tuneful tuesday #10)

A beautiful rendition of one of the prettiest songs every composed. The song is a message of hope and encouragement in the most difficult of times. Written by Richard Rogers for the musical "The Sound of Music", it was "...a song of acquiescence—to family, to love, to the small satisfactions of stability—and also of resistance. It was both a symbol and an instrument of the Von Trapps’ fleeing of the Nazis—an embodiment of their belief that the “homeland” was something that could, like a flower that blooms in winter, survive the harshness of fascist rule." (The Atlantic)

Here it is, performed by The Little Singers of Armenia (2013).

when love was born

The voices of children in an old feed silo -- beautiful and brilliant. And the song?  Mark Shultz's "When Love Was Born."  Come - let us adore Him...

Starlight shines, the night is still
Shepherds watch from a hill
I close my eyes, see the night
When love was born

Perfect child gently waits
A mother bends to kiss God's face
I close my eyes, see the night
When love was born

Angels fill the midnight sky, they sing
Hallelujah, He is Christ, our King

Emmanuel, Prince of peace
Loves come down for you and me
Heaven's gift, the holy spark
To let the way inside our hearts

Bethlehem, through your small door
Came the hope we've waited for
The world was changed forevermore
When love was born

I close my eyes, see the night
When love was born

feeling small

I sometimes look up into the night sky and think how far away everything is.

And I end up feeling small.

I think God designed it this way. Not just to make us feel small. But to make us realize how incredibly awesome He is.

Two men realized that when someone pictured the universe in which we live, no one seemed to depict it to scale. They show position, and order, and other factors, but all of them seemed to fall short of an actual depiction of things to a comprehensible scale.

What they produced is something that amazes...and humbles at the same time. And yes, God remains, as always, incredibly awesome.
